Eric began his career in the legal field as a police officer for thirteen years with the Charlotte Police Department. He served as the local Fraternal Order of Police Union President, where he negotiated collective bargaining agreements and handled many other labor issues for the union.
While a police officer, he pursued his law degree while working full time. He joined the Eaton County Prosecutor's Office as an Assistant Prosecutor and later joined the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office. While at the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office, he served as the Chief of Narcotics and Major Crimes Unit where he tightened his skills as a trial attorney. He was the lead prosecutor in many “Cold Case” homicide trials, and has tried many homicide cases.
He has over 16 years experience as an Assistant Prosecutor. He is also an adjunct professor at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he teaches trial skills.

2012 – Eric represented a client charged with One Count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree and Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree, in Ionia County Circuit Court. The client was looking at a minimum sentence of at least ten years to life, but Eric negotiated a plea agreement of 27 months to 7 ? years.
2012 – Eric represented a client being sued in Kent County Circuit Court on a complicated real estate matter involving more than $350,000 in cash and real estate. The case resolved with the client paying zero dollars and title to properties being resolved in the client's favor.
2012 – Eric represented a client in Ionia County Circuit Court on a Home Invasion Second Degree case. The prosecutor wanted the client to plead guilty and agree to a prison term. Eric negotiated a plea agreement on the eve of trial to a Misdemeanor, Illegal Entry, and the client was released from jail that day.
2012 – Eric represented a male client in Kalamazoo County Friend of the Court hearing in a change of domicile hearing. The hearing resulted in the client receiving more visitation time and the referee limiting how many miles the domicile could be moved.
2011 – Eric represented a father in Ottawa County Circuit Court in a complicated divorce and custody trial where the wife was seeking full custody of the three children. The case settled in the client's favor and he was awarded joint physical and legal custody.
2011 – Eric represented a father in St. Joseph County Circuit Court in a divorce, custody and change of domicile trial. The wife was seeking to move the children to Indiana to be with her new boyfriend and also seeking sole physical and legal custody. After trial, the court awarded joint legal and joint physical custody and denied the change of domicile.
2011 – Eric represented a building contractor in Montcalm County Circuit Court who was being sued on a newly constructed home. The home owner was asking for the home to be torn down and rebuilt. The Case Evaluation Panel in Montcalm County recommended that the client pay for the rebuild in the amount of $100,000. After rejecting the case evaluation recommendation and two days of trial, the court found that the client was only liable for $5,000 to the home owner.
